Types of Films

DRAMA

A Drama is a feature-length film, over 30 minutes, that tells a story, usually of human conflict, by means of dialogue and action.

COMEDY

A Comedy is a feature-length film, over 30 minutes with a humorous treatment of characters and/or situations.

DOCUMENTARY

A Documentary is a short or feature-length film that dramatically shows or analyzes news events, social conditions, etc. with little or no fictionalization.

SHORT DRAMA

A Short Drama is a film, 30 minutes or shorter in length, that tells a story, usually of human conflict, by means of dialogue and action.

SHORT COMEDY

A Short Comedy is a film 30 minutes or shorter in length, with a humorous treatment of characters and/or situations.

HUMAN SPIRIT

Films of the Human Spirit category are honest films of a redeeming nature that speak to the deeper experiences of life that often shape, transform, and guide the human experience.

ADVENTURE/OUTDOORS

The Adventure Reel is inspired by the festival’s creative and active Colorado audience. Films may be action-focused or philosophical, but accepted films will have a well-conceived and implemented storyline, have an inspirational or storytelling element, and/or should educate audiences on outdoor activities or outdoor themes.

ANIMATION

A short or feature-length film that narrates a comedic, dramatic, or non-fiction storyline using animation.

HIGH SCHOOL FILMS

Films must be submitted by a student enrolled in a valid high school program. Films may fall into any genre. Please notify the festival of the genre of the film summary upon submission. Qualified submissions must include the name of the student’s High School, teacher’s name, email, and phone number. Please do not promote alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence, profanity, or disrespect of oneself or others. Films should be 10 min or less.
