FILM AROUND TOWN: "Quiet Force" presented by Mountain Dreamers (Breckenridge)

  • CMC 107 Denison Placer Road Breckenridge, CO, 80424 United States (map)

The Mountain Dreamers are bringing  The Quiet Force -- a film about the immigrant workforce in Colorado’s ski communities -- to Summit County for two screening events in March. The Mountain Dreamers, a Summit County group dedicated to educating and empowering everyone to stand up for immigrants' rights, is working in partnership with the Breck Film Fest, the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), and the I Stand With Immigrants Initiative powered by FWD.us for these events.

The Summit County events will be a celebration of the local immigrants who help power the ski community in Summit County. The showings will be preceded by a social hour, featuring free appetizers donated from local businesses and beverages available for purchase. After the film, there will be a panel discussion featuring local Dreamers and other pertinent community members.

Through individual experiences in tourism-driven mountain communities, ‘The Quiet Force’ explores social and economic impacts of the Latino immigrant workforce relating to national immigration policies. The filmmakers created the movie with the intention of reaching beyond sparking conversation to generate direct and meaningful action through panel discussions at each screening and partnerships with local and national nonprofits.

Below are quotes from the partnering organizations regarding these events:

  • Janice Miller, Executive Director of the Breck Film Fest, said: “The Breck Film Fest is pleased to partner with Mountain Dreamers to bring awareness to this film presentation. As part of our Film Around Town program, we’re happy to work with others to promote and support films presented by organizations throughout the community.”

  • Peter Bakken, member of Mountain Dreamers, said: “Mountain Dreamers is so fired up to present the Silverthorne and Breckenridge premiers of The Quiet Force Film, that we’re throwing not just one party, but two! It’s a celebration of Summit’s “Quiet Force” - our friends and colleagues from the immigrant community, and their families, who do so much of the hard work that keeps our ski town’s economy running so successfully.  Mountain Dreamers is a new movement of immigrants, young dreamers, and gringos in Summit County who have joined together to educate and empower everyone in Summit to stand up for the rights of our immigrant neighbors and their families.”

  • Kaytia King, Deputy Director of FWD.us I Stand With Immigrants Initiative, said: “Immigrants in Colorado play a vital role in our economy, particular in tourism-based economies like the ski resort towns of Colorado. Immigrant make up nearly 50% of the workforce in sectors critical to our state’s mountain towns such as construction, service, and housekeeping. It is critically important that we uplift these untold stories, while also showcasing our respect and admiration for the contributions immigrants make to communities across our state every day.”

  • Mateo Lozano, Mountain Regional Organizer with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), said: “The Quiet force film is meant to portray the lives of the immigrant labor force that keeps ski industries alive and thriving. These individuals come to the United States primarily for work, safe living conditions, and to create a life of opportunity for their families. As long as there are jobs to fill, they will continue to come. It's up to us as residents of Summit County to welcome them to our community. We need immigrants to maintain a healthy and thriving Summit County,”
