Film offers refuge and release, new perspectives, conversation starters, and tells important stories that can direct the course of history. Breck Film is proud to share film and its industry across Summit County, Colorado, and even the nation. Girls in STEM: Our Partnership with Keystone Science School

In partnership with Keystone Science School and sponsored by HP, our Girls in Stem program is an annual 4-day workshop for young girls to learn the ins and outs of filmmaking. Mentored by filmmakers, actors, and other industry professionals, the girls have 4 days to make short films and screen them at our annual festival!

The Girls in STEM program is crucial to our community and provides a unique platform for girls to explore and engage in STEM subjects through film. Additionally, they are able to hear from women working in the film industry and learn about potential career opportunities.

Summit County Film Commission

The Summit County Film Commission (SCFC) is the essential resource for filming in the Colorado Rockies. Just 70 miles west of Denver, the SCFC helps productions utilize a versatile area known for both its dramatic alpine scenery and its production-friendly infrastructure.

The SCFC provides access to a huge range of accessible locations, from historic mining towns (Breckenridge, Frisco) and modern resorts (Keystone, Copper Mountain) to stunning natural features like Lake Dillon and snow-capped peaks.

They streamline the process by offering:

  • Permitting Expertise: Navigating permits for the National Forest, Denver Water, and local towns.
  • Production Support: Connecting projects with local lodging, crew, and essential resources.
  • Incentives: Providing information on available tax incentives and film resources.

The SCFC is dedicated to making Summit County an efficient, unforgettable location for your next project.

Aamuro Kanda High School Film Winner

High School students from across the country are invited to submit their short films to the Breckenridge Film Festival. Selected films will be screened during the festival and high schoolers attend a lunch with professional filmmakers who offer feedback on their projects, networking opportunities, and resources to continue their careers.

Since the program’s inception, alumni of the high school program have returned as professional filmmakers to share their own insight to the next generation.

Matthew Glave

The Breck Film Society has monthly screenings of independent films, new documentaries, and foreign films. These screenings often bring in filmmaker guests, expert panels, and community non-profits. Past events include:

  • Paradise Paradox – a free film focused on mental health in the high country partnered with Building Hope
  • Maestra – a documentary about a women’s conducting competition with a visiting conductor
  • In the Dirt – a mountain bike documentary with an attending director
Kids at school

Breckenridge Film Festival hosts a free – yes, free! – event to families during our annual fall festival. After a short program of age-appropriate independent films, kids have the opportunity to express creativity in a guided art project. Previous activities have included building storyboard flipbooks, meet and greets with visiting avalanche dogs, and creating their own superheroes.
