Festival Volunteer Opportunities
(These opportunities are available each September)
Your Impact:
As a member of the Venue Volunteer Corps, you will work in tandem with fellow volunteers to provide a fun and friendly environment focused on quick and efficient customer service in theater locations during the festival. Your duties will include Scanning, Ballot and Survey distribution and collection.
Estimated time commitment:
- Attend one 2 - hour training session in September.
- Register for at least two 4-hour ticketing shifts during the four-day September festival.

Your impact:
As VIP Lounge Volunteer, you create a fun and festive VIP Lounge environment that provides a welcoming place for filmmakers, sponsors and VIP festival guests throughout the festival. You will engage VIP Lounge guests in conversation, serve food and beverage as needed throughout the festival, and answer questions about schedules, ticketing, special events, key personnel and other pertinent information. You will connect with likeminded people in your 3-4 hour shifts while the VIP Lounge is in operation during the festival.
Estimated time commitment:
Being present for your shifts at the four-day September festival.

Your impact:
As Information Center Volunteer, you will be based in the Blue River Plaza Information Tent. Volunteers apply their smile and customer service skills to organize and provide accurate festival information to guests, including pass holders and filmmakers, and engage passersby in one of the town’s busiest locations. Information Center Volunteers are a critical part of the communication team, as they are the main source of information about schedules, ticketing, special events, key personnel and other pertinent festival information. Information Center Volunteers have fun with like-minded volunteers in the information dissemination effort.
Estimated time commitment:
- Attend at least one of two schedule Information Center meetings ahead of the festival to gain familiarity with the festival.
- Being present for your shifts at the four-day September festival.

Your impact:
Filmmaker Liaisons will create a fun and welcoming environment for filmmakers, which showcases the town, introduces them to fellow filmmakers, festival staff & board, and festival guests. Filmmaker Liaisons are critical members of the organizational team, communicating closely with the Liaison Coordinator and Leadership Team – all while having the unique opportunity to enjoy the company of filmmakers representing their films.
Specific duties include:
- Ensuring filmmakers fulfill duties as an attending filmmaker throughout the festival, including being on stage to introduce films & filmmakers (according to a recommended festival script) and hosting a post-film Q&A session.
- Ensure that the filmmaker signs the BFF Poster and has their photo taken in front of the BFF Step and Repeat banner.
- Assist filmmaker to an on camera interview in the VIP Lounge with Ashley Kujawski and the Media Team.
Estimated time commitment:
- Attend at least one scheduled Filmmaker Liaison training prior to the festival in August or September.
- Be present throughout the festival as an asset to the filmmaker.
- Be present during filmmaker’s scheduled screening at the festival.

Your Impact:
As a member of our Lead Volunteer team, you use creativity and knowledge of media to develop and implement relevant forums and partner programs for festival goers and attending filmmakers. You'll work with the Programming Director to bring programming to life, the Technical Director to ensure quality presentation of Talkback Programs, and the Marketing Manager on promotions. Involves collaboration with attending filmmakers to establish forum topics, organize speakers and communicate event details. You help implement programs such as Forums, High School Program, Teen Workshops, and Film-Related Special Programs.
Estimated time commitment:
- Approximately 5-10 hours/month leading up to the festival (July, August, September) for in-person meetings, updates, organization and communication, culminating in full presence during the annual September festival particularly during scheduled forums.
- Suggested: Attendance at a few weekly operations meetings in July, August and September to gain working knowledge of festival operations.
- Presence at the annual festival is required: Be present at all forums and special programming (or ensure volunteer presence is in place) to ensure all details are tended to before event kicks off.

Your Impact:
As a member of our Lead Volunteer team, you lend your creativity, organizational and communication skills to enhance the visibility of our sponsors throughout the four-day fall festival. This volunteer role utlitizes initiative and problem-solving to develop creative solutions to enhance sponsor signage and activation across all venues and the Blue River Plaza, enhancing visibility and recognition, while working with the Parties and Events Coordinator, Theater Managers, Transportation Coordinators, and Operations Manager.
Estimated time commitment:
- Approximately 10-15 hours/month leading up to the festival (July, August, September) for in-person meetings, updates, organization and communication, culminating in full presence during the annual September festival particularly during scheduled forums.
- Suggested: Attendance at a few weekly operations meetings in July, August and September to gain working knowledge of festival operations.
- Presence at the annual festival is required: Be present at sponsorship locations to ensure all details are tended to before event kicks off.

Your Impact:
Promotions Street Team members assist in hanging posters, rack cards and postcards in Summit County, neighboring mountain and Front Range communities prior to the fall festival, winter fundraiser and other events such as the monthly Summit Film Society.
- Get some exercise! Be on call to walk one or two designated areas in Summit County at least once monthly to hang posters and distribute rack cards and postcards in strategic places for highest visible impact. You will sign up for one or more of the following areas: Silverthorne; Dillon/Keystone; Breckenridge; Frisco; Leadville; Alma/Fairplay; Steamboat; Vail/Eagle County; Buena Vista/Salida; Denver; Boulder; Fort Collins; Colorado Springs
- Get social! Chat up our events with store owners and management so they can help spread the word about our awesome events!
- Use your organization! Help festival leadership maintain accurate and up-to-date records of where to distribute posters, rack cards and postcards throughout the community.
Estimated time commitment:
- A few hours per month, year-round.
Benefits of this volunteer role:
- Your choice of 6 tickets to either the festival or Summit Film Society depending on your preference.
Your Impact:
As a member of our Lead Volunteer team, you lend your creativity, organizational and communication skills to connect filmmakers and guests during our in-fest social events. You work with the Operations Manager and Sponsorship Activation Coordinator (volunteer) to facilitate and enhance these intimate events through streamlining their organization, creative design, and recruiting a team to help deliver a quality experience during the festival.
Estimated time commitment:
- A few hours in May and June to reach out and secure venue locations and open the dialogue about specific event details.
- Approximately 5-10 hours/month leading up to the festival (July, August, September) for in-person meetings, updates, organization and communication, culminating in full presence during the annual September festival particularly during scheduled forums.
- Suggested: Attendance at a few weekly operations meetings in July, August and September to gain working knowledge of festival operations.
- Presence at the annual festival is required: Be present in advance of and at festival parties & events to ensure all details are tended to before event kicks off.

Your Impact:
As a member of our Lead Volunteer team, you showcase creative energy in planning, coordinating, and executing a quality program at the annual Awards Ceremony, which highlights the successes of our filmmakers and engages festival goers during our Red Carpet Reel Awards Ceremony. You will:
- Implement your initiative and problem-solving skills through creative solutions to bring programming to life, animate the event and recognize our sponsors effectively.
- With festival leadership, recruit additional Award Presenters beyond paid Award Sponsors.
- Have fun with the evening host and Award Sponsors as you practice for the main event at a scheduled rehearsal time during the festival.
- Obtain a list of award winners from Programming Director, taking the lead on ordering and creating awards to be presented at the event.
- Coordinate with the Sponsorship Coordinator to ensure all relevant sponsor banners, logos and signage are present at the event.
- Get the word out for this Red Carpet event alongside the Marketing & Development Manager.
- Exert creative energy and attention to detail to overseeing and verifying digital component creation, as well as the A/V choreography with event plan and category winners with the Technical Director.
Estimated time commitment:
- Approximately 10 hours/month leading up to the festival (July, August, September) for in-person meetings, updates, organization and communication, culminating in full presence during the annual September festival particularly during scheduled forums.
- Suggested: Attendance at a few weekly operations meetings in July, August and September to gain working knowledge of festival operations.
- Presence at the annual festival is required: Be present on Saturday of the festival to run a rehearsal with tech and presenters, and to oversee the evening event.

Your Impact:
As a member of our Lead Volunteer team, you are an important link between the festival and its Red Carpet industry guests! The VIP Special Guest Coordinator helps coordinate festival VIPs from lodging to itineraries to greeting, and then welcoming them into the festival. You will:
- Be a critical part of the organizational team, communicating closely with the Executive Director and Programming Director.
- Grow your skills of time-management and communicating to run a smooth-operating VIP management system including arranging travel, lodging, itineraries, gifts, welcome bags, festival liaisons, etc.
- Implement your initiative and problem-solving skills through creative solutions to enhance guest experiences and build positive relationships within the industry.
- Work with Lodging Coordinator to ensure complimentary lodging for special guests.
- The VIP Special Guest Coordinator maintains detailed records of all elements of a VIP Special Guest’s stay.
Estimated time commitment:
- Approximately 10-20 hours/month leading up to the festival (July, August, September) for in-person meetings, updates, organization and communication, culminating in full presence during the annual September festival particularly during scheduled forums.
- Suggested: Attendance at a few weekly operations meetings in July, August and September to gain working knowledge of festival operations.
- Presence at the annual festival is required.
