Breckenridge Backstage Theatre
As the oldest year-round theatre company on Colorado's Western Slope, the Breckenridge Backstage Theatre (BBT) has been entertaining audiences for an impressive 50 years. What began in 1974 with a melodrama performed in a local saloon has evolved into a professional theater company that consistently garners regional recognition and awards.
Today, BBT operates from the beautifully renovated Breckenridge Theater, a 137-seat venue in the heart of downtown. Recent successes include multiple Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Award nominations and wins, particularly for their productions of "Inventing Van Gogh" and "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder."
The theatre's impact extends beyond entertainment – their Student Theatrical Enrichment Program (STEP) provides young performers the opportunity to develop their craft through Broadway musical productions, embodying BBT's mission to enrich, educate, and entertain Summit County. You won’t want to miss a show at the backstage!
The National Repertory Orchestra
If you’re a fan of music, then make sure you plan a visit to the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO).
This prestigious organization doesn't just perform concerts – it shapes the future of classical music through its intensive summer fellowship program. Each year, 80 talented musicians are selected from across the globe to participate in this tuition-free program, performing more repertoire than any other festival of its kind.
Under the direction of Music Director Michael Stern, the NRO presents up to 18 concerts and over 85 free events throughout Summit County during their summer season.
The organization's commitment to community engagement is evident in their extensive outreach programs, including free concerts and innovative educational initiatives like their popular "instrument petting zoos," where children can handle and play real orchestral instruments.
