Filmmaker Interview

What’s harder?  Getting started or being able to keep going?  And what drives you to continue making films?  I think getting started is the hardest.  Making a feature you need connections and people to believe in you and your project.  That takes time unless of course you are connected from birth or as talented as Spielberg, but you know it took me many years to do this, so yeah… Maybe we can revisit this question in 10 years and my answer will be different. 🙂

What films have been the most inspiring or influential to you and why? I’m mostly drawn to character driven films.   I love real scenarios and real life struggles.  Even when it comes to comic book type movies, I prefer LOGAN over WOLVERINE  or Todd Phillip’s JOKER film.

How many films have you completed? One feature

How do you know when your story’s finished, when to walk away? I think when you as a filmmaker are ready to share the project with others,  even if there are going to be additional edits, then your story must be there or you wouldn’t share it.

Where do you get your inspiration from? My inspiration for writing screenplays is my own life experiences and or people watching. I love observing people.  I love putting myself in their shoes and imagining what their backstories are.  I can create from there and then draw from my own life experiences.

What is your favorite aspect of film production? I’ve only made one film and all of it was amazing.  For me, there is nothing like watching actors nail your scene that you wrote and envisioned for years.   Then also putting those performances together in post.
